BAR REVIEW: THIS AGAVE-FOCUSED BAR IS ONE OF THE BEST NYC HAS TO OFFER, AND HERE'S WHY

Most people aspire to be regulars at a bar, especially in NYC where there are millions of people and it is easy to become just another number, or face in the crowd. Everybody loves to be noticed, feel at home, and have a sense of belonging...preferably while indulging in some fine cocktails and mezcal.

The Stonewall

Ghost Donkey, an agave-focused cocktail bar in NoHo, is the home to one of the best bar staffs in NYC (officially awarded Best Bar Staff by Timeout New York in 2018). What makes an impressive bar staff worthy of such recognition and praise? My belief is: hospitality, consistency, and great personalities & storytellers. At the Ghost Donkey, the bar staff churn through hundreds and hundreds of patrons on most nights with consistently impressive cocktails, and smiles on their faces. This is not an easy task, but they make it look flawless. Some people can hardly pat their heads and rub their tummies, but these guys (and gals) are chatting about mezcal with two shakers in hand, measuring pours, balancing ingredients, and saying hello to friends visiting at the bar with a shot of mezcal. Bartenders, neigh, magicians are more like it.

Mezcal Sun-Risa

Each person behind the bar makes you feel right at home. It's dangerous because you never want to leave and, when you do, things are a bit blurrier than when you had entered - speaking from experience, people. If you are in there enough, and become a familiar face (and even if you aren't), you will always receive a hospitable welcome that will always leave you wanting to come back for more - and this is in addition to their impressive cocktail menu which features mainstay drinks such as: the Mezcal Sun-Risa, the Stonewall, and the ever-funky Mushroom Margarita.

NYC has some of the best, proper cocktail bars in the world, but Ghost Donkey gives you more than just delicious cocktails - they give you the full package of festive fun, outstanding cocktails, impressive service, and genuine hospitality. In my opinion, that's as good as it gets.
